If you are new with us at Harvest Hill Farm, the first few lessons are scheduled in a private lesson with an introduction level assessment. This is required for all new customers whether you’re a first-time rider or have been riding for the last 10+ years.
Each lesson you will be assigned to one of our professionally trained school horses. After you have been introduced to your riding partner, you will bring the horse into our large tack room. Your instructor will guide you through the grooming steps & how to properly tack up that individual horse.
After the level assessments, you will be assigned into an appropriate level entry program with a group of riders at equivalent skill levels. Once you are assigned to a level entry program, you will be given a private link that includes available lessons for that level & at that time, You will have the convenience to schedule yourself any lesson you wish to join as well with making the payment in advance online. Please note, when paying in person, payments per lesson are required pior to each lesson.
We provide certified riding helmets for the first month of lessons. Helmets are the most important piece of safety equipment riders wear, after the first month you will be required to purchase your own.
You are not expected to own a saddle if you are in the new student program or the school horse level entry program, we have saddles available. If you do wish to purchase your own, we are glad to help you get sized & find the right one.
First time riders start off riding on a lunge line. Riding on a lunge line is when the riding instructor has a connection to the horses bit while the student is riding the horse. Riding on a lunge line is the safest way to start riding. If the rider starts to feel off balanced or uncomfortable for any reason, the instructor can easily slow down & stop the horse. When riding on a lunge line, students safely learn all the steps to walking, stopping & trotting. We teach each rider the correct techniques to maintain balance in a correct seat. New riders, Once the rider can maintain balance & capable to stop the horse on their own. Before your first visit we also ask that you please fill out a release form.
Harvest Hill Farm tries to maintain the highest level of quality by keeping class sizes to small groups. As part of your lesson you will be expected to get the horse ready, arrive into the arena on time and untack your horse, caring for the horses cool down needs.
